About the Author
Hi, my name is Nikki Reimer.
Thank you for being here. It really means more than you realise.
I lost my mum at 21 to Cancer & Cushings Disease, she was my soulmate, the person closest to me and nothing about life has felt the same since.
Grief at this age is something I was never prepared for. It is confusing, isolating, and often invisible to the people around you. While everyone else seemed to be moving forward with their lives, I felt like I was just trying to get through each day without her.
There is a certain kind of loneliness that comes with losing a parent so young. It shows up in the quiet moments, in the milestones they are not there for, and in the realisation that the person you would go to for everything is no longer here. It changes the way you see the world, the way you experience life, and the way you see yourself.
I am now 24, and I am still learning how to carry that loss. Some days feel lighter, others feel just as heavy as the beginning. What I have come to understand is that grief does not follow a straight path, and it does not simply go away. It becomes something you learn to live alongside.
I am writing the book I wish I had back then. Something honest, raw, and real about what it is actually like to go through grief in your 20s. Not just the loss itself, but everything that comes after. The confusion, the anger, the guilt, the numbness, and the unexpected ways grief continues to show up over time.
This book is not about having all the answers. It is about sharing what I have lived through, in the hope that someone else might read it and feel seen in their own experience. Because one of the hardest parts of grief is feeling like no one truly understands what you are going through.
If this is something you are navigating too, I want you to know you are not alone in it and i am here for you.
